OK, that's not really fair. I was trying to come up with an evocative title to encapsulate Ryleigh's VO journey through braces, but she was definitely never an "ugly duckling"...
Just a speech-impeded gosling, maybe.
Bless her heart, she tried. But once they installed the palate expander (which, for the uninitiated, is a LARGE METAL DEVICE attached to the roof of one's mouth), her speech was definitely altered, and not in a good way. Sort of sounded like she always had a few marbles in her mouth.
So the jobs slowed down for her, for the 15 months she had to endure her Metal-Mouth. And maybe she enjoyed just being a kid, outside of the booth, for a while.
But the braces (and expander) came out in June, and since then, not only has she recorded her first NATIONAL commercial (for the Alzheimer's Association), she also has a shiny new demo, showcasing her fabulous marble-less mouth.
And you can see/hear it all, on Ryleigh's little corner of my website -- just click on the "Ryleigh Mill - Child Voice" button on the home page.
